I want to get out ahead of the curve on this tournament and encourage players to put September 24th & 25th on their calendars. This is going to be an important event for several reasons. First, due demographics and the marked increase in the number of courses in the Memphis area the Spring Creek Disc Golf Club disbanded last year. John Linton, who has been TDing the last several tournaments, wants a break and asked me to TD the event the last of which had only 38 players. The interest in this fine venue with two 20 hole courses is dying out and this tournament could breath new life into a park that once hosted the SNDG Championships. Second, the State of Mississippi has all its parks under the magnifying glass and is looking at all options from outright closing to curtailing amenities. Wall Doxey has a new Park Manager, Jeff Davis, who supports disc golf and in turn needs our support. A good turnout will provide a noticeable revenue bump in access, camping and bunkhouse fees which will underscore the importance of the sport to the continued financial health of the park. Third, Lyle Richardson retired this year. I want this tournament to commemorate and honor his quarter century as Park Manager and recognize his pivotal leadership in the development and support of disc golf in Wall Doxey State Park. My plan is to commission custom discs with Lyles likeness and dates of service for the players pack. Bill McCarty will be making the plaques which will have the same artwork as the discs. Lyle will be there at the awards ceremony. I know everyone will want to shake his hand and wish him well in his retirement. In general terms there will be two rounds on Saturday and one round on Sunday followed by a skins match open to all pro divisions. I will try to arrange for food on Saturday since the park has now eliminated buffet style cooking. I will need a few volunteers to help me with registration, leader boards, score tabulations and am prize assembly. I would also ask for sponsorships from individuals and clubs with the aim to pay more out than was taken in entry fees. So there your have it. I will post more information as I flesh out the details. Please put these dates on your calendars and make plans to attend. David Dunham and I did some trimming a few weekends ago and the courses are in fine shape. The weather will be cooler toward the end of September and a good time will be had by all. Noticed a lot of new names in Open. Pretty cool.
Wish I could have made it but the boss wouldn't let me off Friday. I wanted to come up and play the courses first and when I couldn't I had to bail. Hated to do it. Nice grandmaster field!

Now for a few housekeeping matters. I made a mistake in the Men Am Advanced Master payout. I had checked the wrong box in the tournament management software and the program calculated only 8 players instead of 9 resulting in a $25 shortfall. Griff pointed out a problem with the payout but I did not have time to deal with it before the awards ceremony. I have altered the payout to show an additional $25.

On the fence about a bunkhouse, may just get a camping spot and set up a tent! Will decide when I get there. Looks like it is going to be a GREAT weekend for Disc GOlf at a beautiful park!
