The rules are clear that an advanced classified player can play Open, win, accept a basket full of moon pies instead of cash if offered by the TD, and retain Am status as long as the player doesn't do that twice in a 6 month period. A Pro classified player who accepts moon pies for their finish is still a Pro for at least 4 more tournaments. The rules preserve the cash = pro distinction, but the benefit of the prizes in lieu rule is debatable. Personally, I've never seen it happen but I imagine it has and it is entirely up to the TD whether or not to offer prizes in lieu of cash.

So you may get a pile of discs for winning pro and wanting to stay an am status, but according to Eric cannot win a basket full of moon pies? And I still don't understand why a player can turn cash down and receive plastic for going adv to open, but if an int players adv and places, that player must leave with nothing.

If by "real series" Dillon means one with competitive integrity, the current BOD made a good start this year already with the new division rules. Finish the other rules and fix our web site and we are there.

JN used the wrong word (except). However even if he had used the word we know was intended (accept) the comment still would not have made sense under the rules, common or otherwise.

Since this thread has zombied back up I'll offer again my Seven Snippets in the hope it might help some understand the new rules:

If you win you may have to stay up. 1.2.
Pros only have to stay up if they take cash or the equivalent. 1.2.1
Typically trophies are not cash or the equivalent. 1.2.1
If you lose 4 you may be able to move down. 1.3.
If you take an award for your final score you did not lose. 1.3
You can't move down to Rec, but you can stay there as long as a TD allows. 1.2.4.4
If you're a bagger the TD can make you move up. 1.6.

If a lawyer didn't right the rules then a lawyers interpretation could be wrong :).....So, say i lose 3 tournaments, on the last one i win, i accept plastic instead of cash and it has a trophy additionally added....i have to deny the trophy and accept the few hundred dollars worth of plastic to become an am again?(or of course deny everything)

We already covered Bob and Bill. They are still Ams. 1.2.1. Joey's Pro apparently wants to be reclassified, so the prizes in lieu rule is irrelevant to his situation. 1.3.1. You're mixing up the stay up and the move down rules. You're also not getting how the prizes in lieu rule works, but that is immaterial to the status of these example players.

I believe the rules state's that a player wanting to retain there am status can except prizes, instead of the cash prize they would have won in open once every six months. So Bob & Bill can except the trophies with no worries, and so could there friend who wants to move back down to Adv. Because the trophy is a prize not cash. To help his argument he can say that excepting said trophy was his once for the next six months. Hope that helped with your problem Joey.

Once again though Dustin, you need to get your story straight if you want a straight answer. Your situation (reclassification) is not about "professional cash". It is about "finishing award". Why don't you just tell us why you were awarded the trophy? For reclassification purposes, like your situation and Joey's Pro, it's all about whether the trophy was due to your final score.

Whether an Open trophy looks like an amateur trophy would be immaterial IMO. If all Open players, or even the first X number that signed up, got identical trophies (not finishing place numbered), and there are no other relevant facts, I would think it would not be a finishing award.
