The Acadiana Disc Golf Association proudly presents

The 14th Annual Mid Winter Open at Pa Davis Park

Schedule and Format

Saturday, January 19th at Pa Davis. Registration opens at 8:00 AM. A brief players meeting will follow the conclusion of registration and the first round will tee off at 9:30 AM.

Keep this in mind - we are starting 30 minutes early to make sure we don't run out of daylight.

All divisions will play the established tees, except for novices and juniors. They will play a mixture of the normal tees and shorter "blue" tees on certain holes. Blue tees will be clearly marked as always.

We are still holding out hope that concrete tee pads can be finished on the back 9 holes before this event but it does not look like the weather is going to cooperate with us. The excavations have already been done for pads and if we are unable to get cement in the ground in time, we will mark tee locations immediately next to or behind the holes where the pads are going to be placed.

Aside from this one issue, the park is looking better and is more playable and fun than it has ever been before. The Parks Department came in and did a ton of work - cleared dead trees, spread dirt, cleared major overgrowth, improved drainage, etc - and it really shows. There are flight paths that were not there last year and even some that were not there last month.

Tee time for the second round will be announced and posted at lunch, once all of the first round score cards have been turned in.

An awards ceremony will follow the second round once the final scores have been tallied. All CTP prizes, awards, merchandise and cash won by players will be presented at the awards ceremony.

Entry Fees

Pro Divisions

Pro Open - $35
Pro Women - $35
Pro Masters - $35
Pro Masters Women - $35
Pro Grandmasters - $35
Pro Senior Grandmasters - $35
Pro Legends - $35

Amateur Divisions

Advanced - $25
Advanced Masters - $25
Am Men - $25
Am Women - $25
Novice - $15
Junior - $15

This will be a fundraiser for the 2013 SNDC.

$5 out of each entry fee will go towards the Doubles Championship which will be held in Lafayette this summer.

Bag Tags

This year's tags feature a photo taken by Joe Todd (aka misterbogey) at Lake Martin.

This will be your first opportunity to purchase a 2013 ADGA bag tag. Additionally, a few will be out on the course as CTP prizes.

Once again, we are selling tags by themselves as well as packaging them with other merchandise.

$10 - 2013 ADGA tag only

OR

$20 - 2013 ADGA tag plus a nice embroidered golf towel. Towels will be navy blue with the club's logo sewn in full color.

OR

$40 - 2013 ADGA tag plus a nice embroidered golf towel plus a full color CFR disc for the 2013 SNDC

Please consider buying your 2013 ADGA tag on the 19th, that way you have a full year to play for it.

Plus, we will have some special prizes for holders of our outgoing 2012 tags as a way of saying "thank you" for your support.

Extras

CTPs will be out on the course, cash, merchandise and a few "low number" bags tags.

Vegas style Ace Pot, $1 thru $5. Throw-off (if necessary) will be held while the scores are being tallied after the second round.

Novices and Juniors will receive a free Star or Champion disc of their choice.

Plaques/awards for the top three finishers in all amateur divisions and top finishers in all professional divisions will be given out.

Food and Beverages

To ease the pain of the $5 fundraiser, we're gonna feed two meals at this tournament.

Lunch will be served FREE of charge to all players between rounds. John is cooking up a pot of chili and we'll have hot dogs, chips and soda to go with it.

AND

Somewhere's Else Bar & Grill took a real liking to us after the last tournament. So much so that Carol - the owner - has invited us back after this tournament for drink specials and he will be serving FREE chicken and sausage gumbo too. We encourage our out of town guests to stay and join us in the festivities.

Ah yeah, it's time for some PA Davis tournament play. Looking forward to seeing my SN family at home. Jacques was not exaggerating when he described how the course looks in comparison to the way it used to just a few months ago. The course looks great and plays a lot more forgiving than it has in past events. I think many of you out of town players will be surprised by the changes the parks department have made to make it look and play so nice.

Not to worry when it comes to my chili. I have never had a complaint other than, there's none left. Which I promise won't happen for this event. Jacques has had it and I'm pretty sure he was more than satisfied when he finished eating it. I'm looking forward to being able to see some smiling faces after lunch is served. Remember, never trust a skinny cook! LOL

Just got off the phone with Marvin McVay and he plans to be there. Unfortunately, the 19th is our training day for new volunteers so I'll be at Lake Martin all day. Jacques, if you need a 3rd for the Sr. G.M. division, I can just sign up and get the registration fee to you. I hate to see David and Marvin play in the Pro GM division and embarras all those younger guys!

Also, to emphasize to everybody who plans on coming from out of town - 1st round tees @ 9:30 not the usual 10:00 so make sure y'all get on the road early enough.

Yes sir, it has! Hole 1 is a bit muddy from the construction vehicles moving it away. Once the grass grows it will be perfect.

Special thanks to David Clayton for a mighty fine sponsorship of $25 which will be on the course as a CTP courtesy of The BOB Rodgers Memorial DGC at Sam Houston Jones State Park in Moss Bluff, LA.

Other CTPs will include some discs from Legacy - supposedly they are what all the cool kids are throwing.

We will also have some low number ADGA bag tags out there too.

Hope to see some of our friends in Lafayette on the 19th for a fun day of golf at Pa Davis.

Great to hear from all the out-of-town players who are coming over this weekend. Look forward to seeing our friends here in Lafayette for a fun day of Disc Golf.

Supposed to keep raining through Thursday which means there is a 0% chance that the new concrete tees will get worked on before the tournament. We will have clearly marked boxes to tee from on the back nine, adjacent to the normal pads. There are a few signs that need to be put back in the ground as well.

Speaking of the weather, current forecast calls for a low of 40 on Saturday morning and a high of 60 in the afternoon and no rain.

Come join us for some nice weather at Pa Davis.

Jim, looking forward to it. Couldn't help but notice Mr Brooks joining the ranks of Grandmasters this year. Could potentially have a big GM field this weekend.
