Section 2.0: Qualification for Southern National Disc Golf Championships

The SNDG tournament Series uses individual seasons in determining SNDG Championship eligibility. The SNDG Championships are held after each SNDG qualifying season as provided in the Introduction of these rules. The Southern National Doubles Championship (SNDC) is typically held the last full weekend in July. The Southern National Amateur Championship (SNAC) is typically mid-August, two weekends prior to the Labor Day weekend. The Southern National Pro Championship (SNPC) is typically held the first weekend of September (Labor Day weekend).

Did you expect more? That area doesn't have a ton of pro players so a huge percentage of pros would have to be from elsewhere. Those who did not make the trip missed out on some good courses though.

I always thought that the Southern Nationals championships were for the SN players. I'm not saying anything is wrong with this, but I find it odd that every single division, both men and women, were won by players that only played in 1 SN tournament the entire season. Seems like there should be a little bit more of an entry requirement to get in, like maybe 3 tournaments, to prevent professional out of town baggers who are not really part of the SN community at all, from coming in and smoking the SN players and taking all the money that the legit SN community members contributed all year by supporting, and actually playing in, the series. Look at the score differences between the winners and 3rd place in every division. 20-30 strokes??????

Just sayin'.

It's definitely something worth debate. The open pro winner finished t-95th in points for the season, 2nd place finished t-83rd, and 5th place finished t-60th. It definitely doesn't feel very Southern Nationalish... I believe yearly fees made up right at 50% of the tournament revenue (with entry fees and additional sponsorship making up the rest), of which 3 of the top 5 finishers contributed a total of $8. I believe 18 of the 30 open players finished in the top 50 in points for the season with virtually all of the rest (other than those 3) having significant points in amateur divisions. Is this event an attempt at having a large pro event at the SN's expense or is it a championship tournament for SN players as a culmination for their performance and contribution throughout the year? I don't know what the correct answer is but if the SN believes that it should be for the players who have achieved and contributed significantly throughout the year then more strict standards should definitely be placed on what qualifies someone to play in the event.

While Will & Barry only played one event, that was all they needed to qualify. That's the rule. Been the rule since the dawn of the SN.

And while they each only contributed $2 this season, the tournaments they qualified at contributed $136 and $262 to the SN.

The SN should welcome tournaments & players from the fringes of SN land where these great players come from. If we had a BoD that didn't sleep all day, night, week, month, year, they could promote the SN to the fringes and the SN would get bigger and better. But we don't. We got a BoD that doesn't even bother to have meetings, post financials, order bag tags, or do much of anything anymore.

Ouch...

Well.. question really is.. if our local " pros " did better we wouldn't be having this talk :) We would be bragging about how they beat up on " out of town pros ".

It's a touchy topic indeed. But with pro's like Will talking about it via FB and social media isn't that worth the trade off? Spreading the word sounds like that could be worth a few $$.

Doesn't really matter who plays as long as they, the players, met the requirements in place to participate...I personally am more concerned about the SNC being QUALITY event...which this was not...IMO.

I thought this event was just fine. There were hiccups just as in virtually all events. The courses were great.

The volunteers who kept the coolers full of water... spotted on holes, FEED us (awesome food!!! for days) , kept score and shuttled boards back and forth all did an awesome job. The courses were hard ,but in great shape. The ones at Lake Lowndes should have been marked better but the regular course was good. The Gold course is a bit bizarre, BUT everyone played the same holes, so it was fair. Thank-you Columbus Disc Golf Club for hosting the event when no other city seemed interested!!!!!!!!!!! The event had its high points and low points, they ALL do, but it was a success!!! Thanks again Clayton and company !!!!!

I am not a pro player, so my opinion might not matter, but if every year some PDGA world ranked players are going to show up and win MOST of the money, it seems a waste to compete. I know I am supposed to want to play because it is fun, but paying $80 to enter and for gas and lodging, I would like to feel I have some chance of cashing. This may be one of the reasons for the low turnout. It may be time to AMEND the eligibility requirements for the Pro Championship. What do some of the pros who played feel about this?

I would say it's fine. Why? Well.. why would you want to win a tourney without the best of the best being there? Would you feel good knowing you won a big " pro " tourney without say.. Cam or Matty there? (( no disrespect to the other pros )) I know personally I would not be satisfied. I would want me game challenged.. If they come down to one or more of our tourneys then why not let the " Tour Pros " play? That would be like saying... " well Cam or Matty O.. you only played in one tourney this year.. sorry you shouldn't play in the SNPC " Eh.. lol.. they are guys they travel and play with the big boys and they never get flack for beating up on the locals.. so why should Will or any other " out of towner " get any grief or have there eligibility questioned?

I have been competing in SN events 15 years.

The courses were in great shape plenty of water stations navagation was rough Thanks Vicki Palmer for the direction on each hole :)
just wondering about No players meeting no points discs no bagtags?
did somebody win the Wally Free Sportsmanship award?
How many SN Qualifiers are held on 10,000 ft courses? I thought the idea was to showcase the courses and the players of SN community not just the top pros

i have been away for a few years did these things get phased out or did i just miss it?
I love you all and mean no disrespect
