Which is completely opposite of what you stated earlier in the thread.

I must be missing something. Please help. Show me where I can find these SN ratings now so I can see that someone has volunteered to do them for free. Are they being published now or not? If not, why not. There is absolutely no reason that SN ratings are not being published now other than that no one has been sufficiently motivated.

Maybe there is not enough motivation because ratings are overrated, just entertainment or are a horrible way to measure skill and difficulty. I admit I don’t know what ratings are worth. I do know two things: 1) No one has been adequately motivated to publish SN ratings on a large scale. 2) Publishing ratings has never been and will never be free. It’s just a question of whether a) volunteers will pay the cost with their time, b) players will pay the cost with their money or c) it will never happen.

If this thread is any measure of the will of the players, we now know ratings are not worth $1.

No matter how much volunteering SN board directors, TD’s and club members do, there are still beneficiaries who will say volunteers should volunteer even more of their time. Sometimes it seems like the more volunteering that occurs the less beneficiaries value the benefits. At least Bluff has been pitching for a paid treasurer. Bravo.

And head, when you say “no one wanted it” I think what you are saying is that the BOD would take no action on ratings. You can’t mean literally “no one” wanted ratings. You wanted ratings, else you would not have done them. But the difference between what you offered and what I am offering is:

1. No BOD action is required for the ratings I am offering. The TD’s decide if they want their events rated, based on what the TD thinks the entrants value, like every other decision a good TD makes. No one will be able to say “no one wanted it”. The TD’s vote is the only one that counts to the vendor. Period.

2. You did not publish the ratings you did. This offer is to publish ratings accessible to everyone without regard to their use, BOD action, or the wants of others.

I do know how to read... in fact in that post you yourself suggest that YOU are the one with the reading/comprehension problem.

Sadly some want to actually volunteer to do more but we can't get access to let them... like fix all the bugs on the website and update the Rules/Guideline books.

They're not worth $1 for every event per person. Make it a one-time fee and I think more people would be for it.

Again, if it was a one-time fee, all tournaments could be included. What's the point of even doing the ratings if you don't include all tournaments?? To me, it wouldn't make sense to have ratings if you're only rating certain tournaments (where the TD gives the OK) and not others.

Send me the formula you would use.
Send me course ratings that are already in place.
Send me some propagators and their ratings.
I'm willing and able (and competent) to devote time to calculate ratings.
I don't want payment for my sevices. Maybe just a "thank you" here and there.
Give me the tools I need and I'd be happy to do it.

foolsarewe, you said

“Send me the formula you would use”
I do not understand why you are asking me for the formula again. I sent it to you a month ago by PM. This was your reply, which includes the formula, and acknowledges you got it:

Ok, somehow that all makes sense to me. The only thing I don't quite understand is this:
How can that formula be applied if most SN players don't have player ratings to begin with?
With no player rating for a propagator, the formula cannot be used, correct? Am I missing something?

“Send me course ratings that are already in place”
There are no course ratings that are already in place and you don’t need them. It is calculated each round. The ratings I offer would create a record of all course ratings in participating events.

“Send me some propagators and their ratings”
You have to dig these out of the PDGA site at the time of each event you are rating, unless you can conclude they have not changed since your last dig and there are no rated players not in your last dig. I do not keep up with them so I don’t have anything to send you.

Good Luck.

What would the rating thresholds be? The same as the PDGA?

Not all of us have issues with the PDGA, Keith. Sorry.

I recommend you don’t worry about how ratings will be used at all for a while. Publish them for about a year and get some feedback from the membership first on how good they are at measuring skill and difficulty. If most people think they look accurate then the BOD will have a basis for considering them to control division selection (or not). Unless and until people see that they are a good measure it would be a big mistake to give them an official use.
