New course at Burns Park N. Little Rock

Posted by robbie shaw
Baskets have been ordered for our new course, which will make 2 courses in Burns Park. New 18 hole design has been laid out, pending approval by parks dept. on Dec. 26, construction will begin. The new course will be a championship caliber course in wooded area with some severe elevation changes, defined fairways, multiple pole locations and scenic views of the Arkansas River and the Little Rock skyline. We are not limited in terms of space so this course should be a challenge to the best of players. More info to follow.
How Sweet IT IS !! Way to go Burns and LR!!!

The plan for another 18 hole course has been on the table since the summer of 2001. An 18 hole course was laidout, approved by the Parks Dept. and, with portable baskets, was used at the 2002 Arkansas State Disc Golf Tournament last spring. Since then some design concerns around the Visitor Center were brought up by the Parks Dept.. These concerns have prompted us to reconsider the location. Still, it is a consideration to work out the design and put in locking anchors. This would give Burns Park a third 18 hole course. This course uses two of the holes from the existing 21 holes course which in effect makes, with design changes, a 36 holes course. Those who played the tournament last spring seemed to enjoy the new course but having the two courses side by side made for more golf being able to be played in a single location than most have ever experienced. Like to hear from any who played the courses last spring. Just a personal thought, it is conceivable to play three courses here this spring. The possibilities are endless in design and play when we begin to think outside the envelope.
I learn something new every day! Who knew Little Rock had a skyline ;P
Well Crow it looks like you won't get to see the Little Rock skyline unless you ask someone to show it to you. At the meeting last week for approval of that site it was denied. The Parks Dept. wants us to stay on the existing course side of the interstate. So we have about three weeks to get a preliminary layout proposal together for a presentation to the Parks Commission. The plan now is to use the course used at last years State Championship with exception. The holes past the visitor center will be eliminated and the holes needed will be layed out across the street from hole sixteen on the east side of the softball complex parking lot. It looks great and there won't be any need for clearing. So the equipment can be installed as soon as it arrives. Confirmation was received that the Mach II's have been ordered. There will be 36 holes or more this spring at Burns Park, North Little Rock, AR. We'll be looking to establish a course record for the new course.
