The Columbus Disc Golf association submits a bid for the 2013 Southern Nationals Pro Championship for August 31 / September 1st (Labor Day is on the 2nd next year).
The head tournament director will be Clayton Nash, with assistant Tournament Directors Chip Strain and Mark Box.
Propst Park - 18 holes, par 61
Lake Lowndes - 20 holes, par 60
Lake Lowndes Gold Course - 18 holes, par 69
Format will be 3 rounds, then a cut - those who make the cut will play a 4th round
We will have a host hotel and a players party similar to what was done for the 2011 MS State Championships, and at least 2 field events, but exact details are not known at this time.
Our minimum goal for sponsorship is $5000 (not including SN fees and bag tags), but we plan on a year long fundraising effort that should raise much much more.
The Acadiana Disc Golf Association proudly submit our bid to host the Southern Nationals Doubles Championship Tournament in Lafayette, Louisiana on July 6th and 7th, 2013 at Acadiana Park and Pa Davis Park.
The tournament will be hosted by the ADGA in conjunction with the Flight Club Disc Golf League. I will serve as tournament director for the event. Scott Comeaux will serve as co-tournament director.
Three rounds will be played - two Saturday and one Sunday.
Pool and course assignments will be evaluated and discussed along with various doubles formats in order to make the tournament enjoyable and competitive for all players.
A player's party will be held Saturday night. There are many venues in and around Lafayette with the capacity to host an outstanding player's party. A location will be selected with emphasis on showcasing our city's unique culture and cuisine. There will be a Disc Golf related function at the party - possibly miniature golf or rings-of-fire.
Keith Bodin has enthusiatically agreed to organize the field events for Saturday afternoon. His approach will be a "tournament-within-a-tournament" in order to make the skills contest a real highlight of the weekend. It will be challenging and fun and will have substantial cash and prizes on the line.
Fundraising goal - if we are awarded this bid, a yearlong effort will begin to provide players packs whose value matches or exceeds entry fees to all participants and a player's party that is 100% sponsored in addition to payouts of no less than 200% in all divisions. This effort will be multi-faceted and will include CFR disc sales beginning as soon as this summer, fundraiser singles and doubles tournaments, sale of corporate sponsorships and bank robbery (just kidding).
I will also apply to have this tournament named as one of the 2013 Louisiana Governor's Games. We will contact the local media in an effort to garner television and print coverage.
I submit to the SN Board and players that Lafayette is 100% capable of hosting a tournament that we can all be proud to call OUR championship. Consider that for the 2011-2012 season, two of Lafayette's events will be in the SN's top ten highest valued tournaments.
Give us a year to get ready for a championship and we will break records, I ga-ron-tee!!
