2014 SN Team Cup Discussion
January 14, 2014 08:51PM
The 2014 SN Cup will be held at Hiller Park in Biloxi, MS.

I will be adding info on the event very soon, I will also be looking for as much help as I can get for this event. Spotters, score keepers, people to move baskets, paint sprayers, course maintenance, score card checkers, pretty much any and all help would be greatly appreciated. I will be running this event in association with Gulf Coast Disc Sports (GCDS). I'll will be attempting to gain sponsorship with one of the many local casino's in hopes of getting heavily discounted rooms or free rooms for the players. Please contact me if there are any question leading up to the event.

I will try to allow as much time as possible for teams to be organized, I know many clubs/cities like to hold qualifiers for the available spots. As of now assume that there will be a cap 12 teams from 12 cities. I will set a deadline for cities to enter into the Cup, once that deadline has been met, I will allow 2 teams from the same city. Teams will be entered into the event once fee's have been paid, Paypal will be available. The SN Cup will consist of 6 players and 3 events, this will all be explained more later. Events will be 1 rounds of Singles, 1 round of doubles, and 1 rounds of skills. Skills will consist of distance, accuracy and putting.

Teams will be consist of:
Pro A
Pro B
Master (age 40+)
Woman
Advanced A
Advanced B

Please consider sponsoring this event, I will post sponsorship levels soon. All sponsorship money will be used for insurance and any supplies needed. All additional money will be used for payout. I will not be taking any money out this event for personal use.
Sponsorship
- Tee Sign: $25
- Tee Shirt/small logo: $50
- Tee Shirt/large logo: $100, Tee sign included.
.
Small logo teeshirt sponsors are $50, this is less then $10 per player if Your team wants to sponsor.
Anyone who sends a tee shirt sponsor before I sell out of CFR disc (ordering 50) will also receive a CFR disc.
I may order another 50 CFR disc if I sell out quickly.

Please help Me continue Allan (Hogman) Morrow's baby and the greatest event in the South.

I have an idea in My head but I don't want to say anything until I know for sure. I need to talk to park and make sure there are no dates reserved for other activities.

What will the qualifications to play advanced be? Not having cashed in pro in last 4 tournaments, never having cashed in pro before, other? Just curious...

Since you obviously decided to go from intermediate-advanced to double advanced, any thought to adding something else, like grandmaster maybe? Or just going 1 advanced and a grandmaster? Just thoughts...

I have established a committee to help me make decisions on matters like former Pro's playing Adv., so I would be discussing it with them before any confirmation. I would assume that it would be the division the player is eligible to play at the time of the event like in past years.

Division will continue as stated above, I know there was discussion of this last year and the grandmaster division seemed to be more difficult for several cities.

Update...

I'm working on selecting a date for the event, there is a slight hold up as I have ask another club to allow to use their date. Once I know for sure what they decide I will update everyone with a schedule. Once the schedule is up I will begin adding information on the event including sponsorship levels. Please consider sponsoring the event any way You and/or Your club can.

Cool. Any idea what layout will be used for singles and for doubles? When will be the deadline for roster submissions? Will the scoring be the same as years past- 1/3 singles,1/9 putting, 1/9 driving, 1/9 accuracy, 1/3 doubles? Will the skills events be the same or similar to years past?

I'm just trying to get a gauge so we can set up some type of qualifying event to select our team here in Baton Rouge.

MADGA is planning on discussing this at tonight's meeting.

We also need to plan a qualifying event, so any idea on when rosters need to be finalized will be very helpful.

Deadlines:
Deadline for a city/team to send in $300 entry fee
- March 24th

Deadline for a city's 2nd team to send in money (this is only available after March 24th)
- April 28th

Deadline for a team to send in a team roster and shirt size.
April 28th

All these dates are with the assumption that the SN Cup will be Hosted on May 31st and June 1st. If the date has to be moved for any reason then the dates may be adjusted. I should have an official answer on the Cup date this week.

I think each team should stick to guidelines on that each team member will have to live in that area because if you don't, you screw other teams that accually have players from that city than a team that just throws together a team with people from anywhere. If teams do not get enforced by this rule, I will get very mad and will give the sn cup a lot of hell. This rule has been enforced at every sn cup that's been around and hope its enforced now. I can understand if the deadline for city's to put together teams and if it doesn't happen, then throw together a team from different areas.

Yes, all players need to live in the general area of the city. I will make exceptions for some areas that have smaller number or a spread out area. For examples. Hattiesburg could work with players down in the Wiggins area, or New Orleans could pull players from the Mandeville/Abita area. I wouldn't allow players from for example Mobile play for Team Pensacola.

This is not the finalized version and is only for discussion purposes

Southern National Cup Team Challenge
May 31 & June 1st, 2014

FRIDAY May 30th, 2014
We will be doing final adjustments on the courses and making sure any last minute details are complete. GCDS (Gulf Coast Disc Sports) will hold a random draw doubles round for anyone who wants to play and familiarize their selves with the Hiller Park layout. You do not have to play the doubles round if you do not choose to. Check in by your team captain is requested this day. We will be at the park until dark. This is where you will get your last instructions for your team for the competition.

Saturday May 31st, 2014
Mandatory players meeting will be held at 9:00 am in the pavilion by hole 1. This will be tournament central this year.. All team shirts must be worn this year all day Saturday. It would be preferred to have worn all day Sunday also. A team picture of each individual team will be taken directly after the players meeting; this includes the volunteers and the crew group.

SINGLES
Tee assignments will be set up as soon as all team lineups are approved, team lineups need to be sent in by April 28th. Tee assignments for the singles round will by your division.(I.E. Pro A will only be with other Pro A players. Master players will only be playing other Master players, etc..) It will be an individual effort for the team this round.

Singles Scoring
Each division will be worth 120 points with a 5 points bonus going to each division winner for his/her team total for round 1.
6 divisions @ 120 maximum point decreasing value scale = a 720 point sweep
Points awarded will go from 120 for winning a division. Down to 110 for 2nd,
100 for 3rd, etc. down to 10 for 12th plus bonus points.
All ties for first place will be played off and determined by golf play. There will be no splitting of the bonus points this year. All 1st place playoffs will begin on hole 1. A coin flip will determine the order. All other ties, points will be split evenly by all players that are tied in same division.
All team singles points will be added together from all six divisions to make a total Team Score

SKILLS Competition
Each portion of the skills competition will be scored an equal third of the points awarded in the golf portions of the competition. (Singles worth 720 before bonus points, Skills worth 720 before bonus, {Driving=240, Putting=240, and Accuracy=240} and Doubles worth 720). Individual divisional scores during each of the skills competitions will be kept and will be accumulated towards the team total in each portion. Bonus points will only be awarded in the putting and distance portions. ( There will be no bonus points awarded in the accuracy portion). The team totals at the end of each portion of the skills competition will be how we re-rank 1st place through 12th place using our points system for the skills. 1st place in each phase; putting, distance, and accuracy will be awarded 240 points, 2nd 220 points, 3rd 200 points, etc... to 12th 20 points.

PUTTING
There will be 4 putting stations with 5 putts/spots marked in a circle around the basket. Each player will putt 2 times from each mark for a total of 10 throws per team member. Distances are in order from least to greatest:
The 15 ft putt is = 1 point
The 24 ft putt is = 2 points
The 33 ft putt is = 3 points
The 42 ft putt is = 4 points
The 50 ft putt is = 5 points
A single team member who makes all 10 putts is = 30 individual points. All individual points for each team member will then be added together to tabulate the Team Putting Score. Team Putting Scores will then be re-ranked by most points to fewest points. The team with the highest Team Putting Score will earn 240 points on the same graduated scale.
1st place earns 240 points, 2nd 220 points, 3rd 200 points, etc... to 12th 20 points. Bonus points will be awarded to the winner in each division. If there is a tie for 1st place in any division there will be a putt off for the bonus points. The putt off will begin on the 33 ft section and go back until we have a winner. The first two putting sections will not be used in the Putt Off.

DISTANCE
We will be instituting a team time limit on the driving grid for this years distance portion of the skills competition. Each team will be given 15 minutes and only 15 minutes to complete this portion. Please understand that each team has only 15 minutes on the driving grid to get 12 throws off and only throws that land in the grid will be measured. Each team individual will get 2 throws. Only the longest of the two throws will be measured.
Any team member not getting throws off in the 15 minute team time limit will be forfeited and remaining throws will not be tossed onto the grid.
Use your time wisely.
The Teams total distance will be measured in meters and each players farthest throw that lands in the in bounds grid will be used to calculate said score.(I.E. Pro A throws 185m, Pro B throws 165m, Master throws 140m, Woman throws 100m, and Intermediate throws 125m. Teams total distance will be 715m.) Here again the 240 point scale is in effect for this skill portion.
1st place will be awarded 240 points, 2nd 220 points, 3rd 200 points, etc... to 12th 20 points. The individual divisional winners from the 6 divisions will receive an additional 5 bonus points that will go towards the Team Total points in the distance portion. NOTE: Pro A and Pro B WILL BE separated this year. Any ties for first place in each said division will result in a Throw Off for the bonus points. In the Throw Off the contestants will flip a coin to see who will throw first. Each will receive one practice throw and one measured throw. Whoever throws the farthest will receive the bonus. These throws will only count towards the bonus points and cannot replace original measured throw.

ACCURACY
There will be 9 stations. Each will have shapes painted on the ground around each station basket. Which shape and how big the shapes are will depend on the particular shot and basket position. Each station will have three point weighted sections.
If you ace any of these shots you will receive 10 points for that throw.
Inside the inner most ring, which is closest to the target, will earn 5 points.
The middle section will be worth 3 points.
The outermost ring farthest away from the target will be worth 1 point.

Each team member will get 2 throws from each of the accuracy stations. After the whole team throws all 9 stations we will add all earned points and get the Team Accuracy Score. At this point the teams again will be re-ranked using the 240-point scale. 1st place will be awarded 240 points, 2nd 220 points, 3rd 200 points, etc... to 12th 20 points. There are no bonus points for this section.

Sunday June 1st, 2014
In this final round of our competition we will be competing in a special ALTERNATE SHOT doubles round. There will be NO SHOTGUN start.
Every team will have designated tee times. We will begin at 10 am and every 5 minutes we will have another group begin. Each tee time group will consist of a 2 team pairing. If all goes to plan the last group should tee off at 11:30 am.

ALTERNATE SHOT DOUBLES
There will be 3 pools in this section. Pool A which will consist of the Master and the Advanced A players, Pool B which will consist of the Pro B and Advanced B players, and finally Pool C which will be Pro A and the Woman players. Pool A, according to score seeding (lowest Total Team Score to Highest), will begin on hole 1 at 10 am. Each pool winner/team will be scored with 1st place points for that pool which will be worth 240 points. This is the same scale we used for the three skills portions. 1st place will be awarded 240 points, 2nd 220 points, 3rd 200 points, etc... to 12th 20 points. There are also NO BONUS POINTS in this portion

50 Point Deduction Rule
If any team shoots out of the original order for any reason whatsoever, then that team will be penalized 50 OVERALL TEAM POINTS. Those are the BIG POINTS, not the ones you would receive for that particular round!

TEAM MVP AND ALL SN CUP TEAM
Each team will have a MVP member determined by the individual teams. One player from each division regardless of team affiliation will be selected as a part of the 2014 ALL SN CUP Team.

The only things I won't be changing is divisions and tournament dates.
Re: 2014 SN Team Cup Discussion
January 23, 2014 11:34AM
Looks great Eric! There are only two things that I think could use some further deliberation:

1) Possibly giving 3 or 4 or 5 throws per player in the distance contest. I understand that this portion can get rather lengthy but I think you could increase the number of throws per player and still stay with the 15 minute team time limit. Teams would just have to be aware of the time and not use practice time and maybe not let everyone throw their full amount. This would involve some strategy. The problem that I have seen with the 2 throws is that it becomes more like an accuracy contest than a distance contest. The penalty is so harsh for registering a 0 that it is more important to just land in bounds than to actually try to throw far.

2) That 50 point overall deduction for throwing out of turn seems a little excessive. I would suggest giving the offending team an automatic, designated stroke penalty (say 2 strokes) and let the points fall where they may with their adjusted score.

Those are my only thoughts. I love the format.

The Arkansas States DG championship was moved to the same weekend as the City Cup this year. Typically we would have a team or 2 at the city cup....unfortunately i cannot say for sure if we will have any team there this year due to the States getting moved.

To correct James Lecy on this issue. The Arkansas States was moved to this date before Eric decided to pick up the SN CUP as I was told the SN Cup would not be run this year. Thank you Eric for doing so. Besides, the SN Cup has always been in April from my understanding. Regardless of the Arkansas States being on the same weekend, James Lecy is doing a great job promoting it on Facebook collecting good interest. Who knows, you might see a Little Rock team travel there after all. Seriously, good luck to the SN CUP as this is one of my favorite events that I have competed in!

I'll begin accepting Team payments now.
In order to send a payment You need to contact me with a private message.
You or Your club/city must be holding a qualifier/try out for the team roster.

If You are wanting to hand pick teams, or there isn't enough players in Your area that are wishing to play that You would need to host a qualifier/try out, please contact Me letting Me know. I am attempting to make sure that everyone has a fair chance at from every city to play.

Remember all team player will need to play at least 2 SN events in the 2013-2014 SN season. There is still plenty of time between now and the start of the tournament for any and all players to play in 2 events.
