On a separate thread one of our board members made a very valid observation: There is no mission statement for the Southern Nationals.
Any organization desiring continuity should have goals and a mission statement to allow it's leaders and members guidance, direction, and a sense as to why the organization even exists! Without set goals an organization languishes, drifts, and become stale. Little gets accomplished. Sound familiar? The mission of the Southern Nationals has really never been stated, therefore the SN directors have never had much direction as to what their purpose is ..... could this be the reason past directors have drifted in and resigned so quickly??? Could this be the reasoning behind the current turmoil within the ranks?
The board, along with the entire membership, would benefit by having a sense of direction for the organization. Is the SN mission something that a non-elected board should determine, or the players and tournament directors of the events that make up the point series? Being a "player's series", obviously, it should be the players and promoters of the sport that determine it's mission.
This is quite similar to the topic of the other thread. However, the current board could make much better decisions about that matter and other issues if they actually knew the underlying purpose of the organization. Help the board out. Allow them a sense of their goals. What exactly is the mission and goals of the Southern Nationals in your opinion?
