Doubles points calculating wrong

Doubles points calculating wrong

Dear SN BOD,

I have found a topic to discuss in your next quarterly meeting.

How are points in ties calculated? I have found going back 2 years a variance on the way they are being done. Please refer to the examples below,

Here is one example, [www.sndg.org]

Here is the other, [www.sndg.org]

So which is it, a tie is a tie or a tie counts as beating everyone you tied with?

You're welcome in advanced.

You are supposed to only get points for those you beat, not those with whom you are tied.

Really? How do you know Cox? Not saying you're wrong but you act like you know the answer when it's clearly been being done the wrong way then if you're correct. Can you and your cohorts shine some light on it?

I went back to the 09-10 season. Appears WAY more results show you get a point for everyone you tie with also,

It's pretty clear in the handbook:

"2.5 A player is awarded an additional one (1) point for each player or team passed in the players registered division at the end of the tournament. Example that if your division had ten (10) players or teams and you or your team finished 1st, you or you and your teammate each would receive two (2) points for playing and one (1) point for each player or team you beat (9) for a total of eleven (11) points."

The phrases "player or team passed" and "player or team you beat" obviously exclude those with whom you are tied.

Casey is correct.

So why has it been being done the other way for all eternity?

Here's an event from 2008 , [www.sndg.org]

So you going to tell me yall just started posting doubles events correctly this year?

Maybe you can reword the handbook to match up with how the VAST MAJORITY have been being posted for the last decade.

The handbook came afterwards...

Every doubles tournament that I have ever tied in was done correctly and every doubles tournament that I have ever done results for has been done correctly. I apologize that not all have over the years. I am sure that we will review the ones from this season and make the appropriate changes, and pay more attention moving forward.

every event you posted the points are all the same, 2 points for playing and 1 point for each team beat, not 1 single team was awarded points for a tie, check your math yet again Dillon.

[www.sndg.org] Open - 6th place - awarded point for tie loud and clear.

Maybe the loud music has affected your brain.
Re: Doubles points calculating wrong
February 26, 2014 10:26AM
Yes, those teams should both only have 4 points each instead of 5.
Re: Doubles points calculating wrong
February 26, 2014 11:13AM
EXAMPLE:

TEAM A 50 50 100 10PTS
TEAM B 51 50 101 9 PTS
TEAM C 51 51 102 8 PTS
TEAM D 51 51 102 8 PTS
TEAM E 51 52 103 6 PTS
TEAM F 52 52 104 5 PTS
TEAM G 52 52 104 5 PTS
TEAM H 52 53 105 3 PTS
TEAM I 54 54 108 2 PTS

Is the above example not correct? If this isn't then there are tons of events posted wrong. I don't see it making sense any other way. IF 2 teams tie then they should recieve the same points. They normally recieve the same payout.
Re: Doubles points calculating wrong
February 26, 2014 11:35AM
It should go as follows:

TEAM A 50 50 100 10PTS
TEAM B 51 50 101 9 PTS
TEAM C 51 51 102 7 PTS
TEAM D 51 51 102 7 PTS
TEAM E 51 52 103 6 PTS
TEAM F 52 52 104 4 PTS
TEAM G 52 52 104 4 PTS
TEAM H 52 53 105 3 PTS
TEAM I 54 54 108 2 PTS

2 points for playing and 1 point for each person/team you beat.

This problem is much bigger than I thought. I thought it was limited to doubles ties only however, it's also been happening in singles ties also,

This event was posted in the last couple of days, by non other than you Adam Morrow,

BOB Inaugural - [www.sndg.org] These results would be INCORRECT by your example above.
Re: Doubles points calculating wrong

Dillion can't believe you were on the BOD once and didn't catch this then.

Thanks for catching that Dillon. Hopefully it's fixed now.
Re: Doubles points calculating wrong

I probably posted 100 event results last year. every one I posted I used the example that I posted above. I have looked through several years worth today and it is done both ways dating back to 2002-03.

The points for ties at that event look correct to me, Dillon.

Casey, they look correct now because I fixed them right after Dillon alerted me of my mistake.

The points were incorrect before Dillon pointed it out.

Your also not taking into account Playoffs, which would result in a win over a team with the same score on the results

You only play off for first. You're a TD and you didn't know this? Lol

That music really has affected your thinking.

Playoffs for first are another topic which is not recorded consistently, however. Sometimes they are still listed as tied for 1st with equal points while sometimes they are split into 1st and 2nd. When I have done results for tournaments, I have always separated ties into different places and made sure that the person entering the results understood that there was a playoff. I have seen many times where there was a playoff and it was still listed as a tie for 1st however. I don't think there is necessarily any guideline for this unlike for the previous subject. I would prefer all ties be separated in the standings personally.

I've been doing both singles and doubles this way, I've also only have been splitting ties for first place only. Oddly enough I was looking for results to correct 2 events that Dillon has played in because ties are not done correctly.

I just want everyone to get on the same page with how points are awarded.

Howler results from this year are posted incorrectly.

You play off for plaques if they have them, which can result in 1st, 2nd, 3rd playing off

If you have plaques for 1st, 2nd, 3rd, how do you determine who gets the plaque on a tieif you don't playoff?

I am old school...... You don't get a "trophy" for 2nd place. You play to win!

Out of the 200+ events I've played I've only seen 1 event offer a trophy for runner up.

State games offers medals for 1st, 2nd, 3rd and other than the SNAC , 2nd and 3rd place trophies are not common.

Baton Rouge has offered plaques for 2nd and/or 3rd in most tournaments and/or divisions over the years... Ryan does have a point.
