We're there no advanced masters in this event? RwC
No, only 2-3 showed up so we ended up playing (for me, I use the term loosely) Pro Masters. Rob O'Dell placed third. I didn't hang around for the awards because I had to hit the road, but he said he was going to accept the cash and remain in the Pro division. I was not a threat, playing some of the worst golf I have ever played. The only thing that saved me from a DFL was a DNF. =8)
That's worse than what we had at Tish, Goby. We only had six advanced masters and four of them were from my hometown. At least three or four of our advanced master couldn't make if for various reasons. There were 64 total players. The best I could do was finish second to a friend of mine who has been in a slump for quite some time. He picked a heck of a time to come out of it! Glad he won though. I squeeked by with second by a stroke, so I wasn't too disappointed.
I figured there would be a decent crowd in Mobile. Hope it's not a sign of things to come. I would have finished fourth in advanced and cashed. THat might be where I'll end up after May since I'm not yet pro master caliber.
I suppose this takes Rob out of the running for the SNDG Am champs?
Take it easy, RwC
You at least got a few points toward your goal. My two points for entering don't even go toward my goal (oh, boo hoo). The weather in Mobile might have kept some Adv. Masters away, and some I believe have recently moved up to Pro Master. If Rob does stay Pro Master, then yeah, he won't be getting any more Adv. Master points. He's a good solid player and he will be competitive in the Pro Master division.

On the good side, I got to play some great courses that I had never before played (Cottage Hill, Hobbit Park, Municipal), I got an ace at Chickasabogue (#2) in the practice round, "won" $3.25 in skins in the final round, and qualified to play in the SN Pro Championships in August.

I also got to play the long tees instead of whining about not playing them! =8)
What order were the courses played? And did Advanced play the same courses as the pros? I am trying to make some sense of the scores, and also trying to see if it's time for Matty to move up ;)
1) Chickasabogue (all)
2) Hobbit Park (pros) / Chickasaw (Ams)
3) Cottage Hill (all)
4) Municipal (all)

Pros played long tees, ams (inc. Advanced) played shorter tees. At Cottage Hill, there were only 4-5 holes that had longer tees. At Muni, all holes I believe, had three different tee pads.

"and also trying to see if it's time for Matty to move up ;)"

The kid can absolutely play the game! He's good and deserves the win!

BUT, and this to be taken with a grain of salt, When you beat other advanced players by 30-40 strokes, it's time to move along. Sure, weather and a few things played a part, but all in all the boys got skills!

NOW, Rumor has it Dad doesn't want him in the big boy groups, understandably for the right reasons, but that's where the older pros need to watch out for the youngster, cause he's a pro...no questions about it
no! let Matt O stay in the advanced division, i don't want him to beat us pros.
Matt, ya need to write a disc golf novel...."How to kick the most a$$ at the youngest age!!!" Way to go 'lil bro!! Keep yourself down there by the Gulf so us folks in north MS, TN, AL & AR can keep our fragile disc golf egos intact.

Can't wait to challenge ya during this spring!!! I hope I can hang with ya!...last time we played ya schooled me sooo bad, I 'bout wet myself!!! AAAIIIIEEE!!! Griff

more tourneys at cottage hill & hobbit-- please!!

what great courses!!
Matt has played some Pro tournaments (SNDG Pro last year, declined last place cash), but he still has one more year to be a Jr disc golf champ, and PDGA adv champ. I mean, when you have three baskets in your back yard, putt from the time you get home from school, and have every disc you could ever need at your finger tips, wouldn't you kick butt too?

Just think, the Boy is growing (he is now taller than I am) and with that comes even more power to go with that technique.

Congrats to BP for puttin' a whoopin' on us pros, and to Jimmy Jam C for gaining those 8 SN points back on me. (only 30 more to go)

Thanks to Jon and Lea, (and all the other animals in that house; including Fliz) for letting me hang there, again.

If any one finds my perscription sunglasses, black hard case, please let me know, It might have been at Muni Fri when I lost them.

Peace,

Willy BT

John K, You Rock
Sounds like you were having too much fun if you lost your sunglasses. If you had been at Tishomingo you would have had chance to win a pair of $80 sunglasses donated by Ricky and Barbara Roberson from The Shoals Frisbee Club. No rain either, this time.

I noticed a mistake -

Bernie Sawyer won the $50 for the best score on the final six holes not Jimmy C. Later...
