Burns Park update and mini tournament

Posted by Bill Trousdale
BURNS PARK, NORTH LITTLE ROCK
SOUTHERN NATIONAL TOURNAMENT MAY 17-18

Today we got all the temporary tee signs and directional signs up on the red course. The course map is up on the bulletin board and map handouts are available on the board also. The changes in the flow of the blue course has directional signs. The rest of the directional signs and temporary signs for the blue course should be up next weekend. The additional sleeves and collars should be here tomorrow and the one hole missing on the red course should be in by next weekend. There is still more to do in the way of cleanup. Poles similar to those at Budhill for hanging golf bags should go into fabrication this week. As soon as they're finished we will be installing them.

Robbie should be posting the distances of the Red and Blue Courses. Also information about the SNQ May 17-18 should be posted here soon.

Next weekend, Sunday, April 6, there will be a Central Arkansas Disc Golf Club players meeting at 11:00am. This will be followed by the first CADGC sponsored mini tournament, the first tournament on the new course. As such, the best score will set the standard as the course record. I'm not sure if the mini will be played as one round on either the Red Course or the Blue Course. Or if it will be two rounds back to back, playing the Red Course and the Blue Course. Robbie, who by the way is our Course Pro, should know. All such questions can be directed to him. Ya'll are invited to come play and take home stories to tell of one of the largest disc golf courses in the country, 37 holes.

It's hard to format here. I don't know if this will work or not. It did on the memphisdiscgolf.com forum.

How do you format on this forum?????????????????? Do you have to go into the root and do it there manually?
What is going to be the format for the mini tourny on Sunday.....1 course, 2 courses, divisions, prizes?
I too would like that info.

I have played both courses. They are fun to play. I am sure the tournament players will like them. But having played them with an Am. female and some other recreational players. They both seem a bit hard to play on that level. Does Bill have other tee placements in mind. Most of the players I see on a daily basis are not tournament folks.

Len Ben is running the tournament, my guess would be that it would be 1 round, which course I don't know, and as far as the tees go, everyone plays from the same tees. We have a club meeting at 11, I'm sure Len will let us know then.
There are plans for alternate pin placements. The longer holes may have shorter pin placements. The shorter holes may have longer pin placements. The courses will be able to be setup for the division of players using it. This will also enable us to set up the courses for private groups, youth groups with the degree of difficulty or play they want. The course will develope over time. We may have the alternate pin placements in for the Southern National. My goal right now is to have the course in and ready by then. If there is time the alternate pins will go in. Some holes have as many as three pin placement considerations. As far as the course developing, the future has concrete pads, a pavillion, and graphic tee signs. All in good time. I think though that the new course or should I say courses will be ready for the Southern National Tournament May 17-18 and be played on two of the most challenging and fun courses. The operative word there is fun!

Two, 18 hole courses side by side. They both start on the same tee. One kinda tight with trees and hills. The other kinda long with open fairways. Both challanging, and really fun to play. In the second largest city owned park in the country ( second only to central park in NY). Is that an amusment park on the other side of the street? The rocket slide sure does draw the kids.

Lets be sure and make that SN Tournament.

Thanks dscgf...I couldn't have said it any better. My nose is so close to the grindstone getting these courses in I can't see the bigger picture. What you say is true. You've given me pause to step back and look around and it's amazing. By the way, the amusement park and mini golf are under new management. They have been renovated and opened this past weekend. They look really nice! Bring the wife, bring the kids, and don't forget your plastic. There's something for everyone!
