A question about the grandfather rule for the Masters and Grandmasters Division. What is the last day that a person can turn 40 0r 50 and play in these Divisions now? If a person does not make the cut off date, are we as tournament directors suppose to let people play in these divisions because they played there in the last tournament they played?

In all other aspects of the rules the SN uses the PDGA rulebook except for the age criteria.

(every other sport on this planet classifies masters as 40 and gmasters as 50)

It should be determined by the year of the event-- in comparision to the date of birth of the old guy in question...

As far as your question "are TD's suppose to let people play in these divisions because they played there in the last tournament they played?" ....

As I understand it, one of the biggest problems comes about when tournaments are both SN and PDGA tourneys, where some individuals are going for Pdga points and others SN points. Why should a SN masters player be punished by not being able to play in his rightful division? Yet if he beats a PDGA master, the PDGA member would still be awarded the points over the non PDGA member

After the next year, the problem will have dissapeared, because the grandfather clause will have run out. The SNDG tour decided not to punish the players that had already been eligable and playing masters for some time. The problem has been basically solved, but Jim can prob. help you with any other questions you may still have.

Jim O had explained it to me once, and it made perfect since at the time, but I can't put it back into the right words to explain how it works. Help us Jim O.

Will brings up a good point about how it is not fair to almost old guy SN golfers at an event that is both SN & PDGA....

Another valid point is a PDGA certified official is obligated to enforce PDGA rules "over" local rules. In other words the PDGA rules are supposed to take precedence over local rules according to the PDGA sanctioning agreement that a TD must sign to run a PDGA event...

It is an akward situation for a TD to be in, that is for sure...

The good news is this contradiction in rules will "be going away" as USDGCWillyT mentions...

what ever your age is going to be during a calender year , that is what you can play , exp. dec. 30th 2003 you can play the whole year at that age. that means this next year will be the last year for grandfather in players , so go ace one , jim
