A SN Board Meeting was conducted on Wed May 9th from 8PM until 9PM.
Present: John Kittrell, Russ Corey, Bill McCarty, Jeff Haydel
Absent: Bob Satter, Zack Hudson (was reachable by phone if a vote was needed)
1st Topic of discussion: Bob Satter raised in PM (private message) discussions with John his concern on how valid participation in the Doubles Championships is decided. He believed that a player should have played in a doubles qualifier to participate in the Doubles Championships.
After discussion among the 4 present board members it was agreed to leave the rules at they current are, 4-0. The rules current state that any point from the correct SN year will validate a player to play in the Doubles Championships.
2nd Topic of discussion: Bob also raised in the same PM discussions his disagreement with how SN funds are allocated in the Doubles Championships. Currently SNDC funds are split evenly across all divisions and all players, which is a deviation from how funds are allocated by division during the other two championships.
Again, after discussions among those present it was agreed to leave the rules and funds allocation at they currently are, 4-0.
3rd Topic of discussion: Josh Lenox has asked to sanction a 1 round doubles event on the Friday May 25th.
After discussion it was agreed that the tournament met the current guidelines for a sanctioned tournament. For some reason the board voted to allow the event to be sanctioned and the vote was 4-0 for sanctioning.
4th Topic of discussion: Accepting prizes in leiu of cash to retain amateur status. Bill McCarty brought up a concern that a particular player has accepted prizes in leiu of cash in a pro division now twice. He wanted to know if there was a rule in place regarding the allowed frequency of this action.
Rule 1.5 of the SN Handbook concerns amateur status and specifically speaks to this practice and the allowed frequency of the practice. The SN Handbook can be found from the front page of the SN website on the right hand column.
Discussion was further had about how to enforce this rule and no good solution was agreed upon. This topic was tabled as other topics superceded it.
5th Topic of discussion: As we near the end of the SN year John is gather numbers and finances together to fund the championships. John has initiated first contact with all TD's who are delinquent in paying SN fees for their event and plans a second contact in the mid-June if the non-payment status persists.
A quick update on the funding of the SNAC, SNDC, and SNPC were given with numbers of how much each event has withdrawn to help seed disc sales and prize purchases.
We closed the meeting with a quick discussion concerning our next meeting. It is planned for Wed 5/23 at 8PM.
