Event Liability Insurance ?

Anyone run into his tournament requirement from the authorities overseeing the course? The issue has recently been brought up and need a solution!

Grayson, I think you PDGA sanction you have the ability to purchase event liability insurance at a severely reduced rate. Not positive, but you might want to look into it.

Someone had mentioned that as well. Thanks. Anyway, through further discussions, the need seems to be diminishing and it probably won't be needed as once thought.

Did anyone check with the MS Dept. of Parks to see if their insurance covers events held in their Parks? I'd assume they carry some type of blanket policy?

This was an issue as recently as two weeks ago as they were looking into it very closely. They made a decision to view disc golf tournaments as "special events" that will fall under their liability insurance blanket ... only another reason why the $3 is such a deal! Otherwise, the event liability would cost an extra few hundred dollars PER EVENT which would have surely killed any tournament within the State Parks.

The TDGA was already looking into a liability policy for the Doubles Championship as it appeared this was going to be demanded.

Insurance from the PDGA is $50 per event.

Most likely the PDGA would be willing to sanction the doubles event as part of the new competition endowment program. As such, the cost would be minimal. Even if they sanctioned it as a C Tier, it would still be less than buying it out right. It's not a bad idea if the park requires it. Grayson, I will email Addie and check to see if they can help with the doubles.

Before the Parks made the above decision it appeared we were going to be forced by the Parks to purchase liability. The MS State parks really helped disc golf by viewing our events as "special events", otherwise EVERY tournament would have been forced to have proof of insurance. That would have really been the final nail in the coffin for tournaments in State parks. They truly support us and made the right decision.

Why don't you ask Steve Timm. He found that his event was CHEAPER w/ PDGA sanctioning than without sanctioning.

HIS event was cheaper because Metarie required liability insurance. In that particular case, it was cheaper. Every park has different requirements. But thanks for the non-answer. rWc

How is this?

$50 insurance fee
$50 sanctioning fee - C teir
$2 per player fee - C teir

If your event needs insurance and the only rate you can find is over $100, PDGA sanctioning will be cheaper than running it non-sanctioned.

But this is only the case IF the event needs liability insurance. In those cases, it certainly IS a good deal. The POG was still a PDGA sanctioned SN event. Not to mention, they utilized a PDGA Endowment Grant for a charity event, which also reduced the cost. rWc
