SN Board Meeting – 28 Dec 05 – 11 Jan 06

The Forums are nothing but a joke basically and have been for at least 6 months.

I blame the moderators and the Board frankly.

If they continue to sit on their ass and turn a blind eye to it, then the SN's will be the next joke if not already.

whew, thanks a lot guys, this is really helping me lose weight, those last 3 posts really made my colon spew. how trite that Psychofish would pop up when $$$ is mentioned, since that's all you care about, and Brad, your link to your business is far more disgusting than anything i've posted...that kinda garbage should be banned too. I don't know why the SN puts up with you scumbags who put advertisements on every post.

try coming up with something positive yourselves instead of waiting for those you label as troublemakers to change. show some leadership. drown us out with "tips for playing better" or "tips for better course design" or "SN course of the week" or "what's in the SN pro's bag" or "disc reviews" or "disc golf websites you should read" or "Russ Corey's tips for being uptight". This website is what you and the rest of us make it.

This forum is exactly that, a place for open discussion. I'd like to point out that the so called troublemakers on here have never, to my knowledge, attempted to dictate what others should and should not be able to post. It's the "upstanding" forum users (who never come on here because of us and always post messages telling us that) who are the ones who want to dictate the way things should be run.

The complaints always come from the same sources, and should not be considered the voice of the majority. they are the vocal minority, a very dangerous and undemocratic part of society who trick people into thinking that they are the majority in order to get what they want.

The thing that started this was the Nose's posting of his upcoming appearance at the Lafayette tournament, which is essentially just a strategy to get people to attend. Why it is so offensive to your virgin eyes is incomprehensible to me. I'm sure it won't become a regualr thing, so calm down.

How, exactly am I supposed to reconsile this when it _will_ be a first impression?

"i am pure EVIL,now give me your funds"
creator of the most popular thread on the S.N.forums of all time
PAID FOR BY THE FRIENDS AND SUPPORTERS OF THE GregOsnose "your next southern nationals board member"

We've got a cola-nose with the sponsors' cash and a statement saying just that. It doesn't matter how much of a joking manner it's given in. Only insiders will get it; everyone else will see childishness. Can someone explain to me how that's not the case?

Also, there is nothing in my mind about this web site or sport being a democratic anything. It's a private host, private site and I can be removed or banned from it; just like a TD can allow/disallow attendance. Thank God for that too.

My efforts put into this sport are not in question, are they? It seemed like that was stated above.

All that said. My point was I cannot send a potential sponsor to this site, which is almost a requirement for reseach, and have them take me seriously.

Am I wrong with that? How, exactly?

Sorry to fall in with the flow and talk off topic on this thread.

When might we expect to get an update on the Board's recent discussions?

At least my "spam" is disc golf related and is actually useful Bob.

Maybe you think all of these people are funny and don't really realize how much Greg and Kernen have ruined the Forum and are ruining the SN's in turn. Act like someone who is running a business or company Bob. You are one of the "leaders" of the SN's. If you can't see how much damage has been done by these guys, then you are out of touch.

It's a giant nose holding money and saying that he is pure evil, and for everyone to give him our funds. Hell, I can't resolve it, and I know the whole history.

But don't blame lack of sponsorship on the formum smartasses. The SBOTW is pretty much the only thread that the weirdos frequent. Most of the others are nice and bland, the way you like it, and are really more of a bulletin board than the SBOTW thread. In fact, a bulletin board could take the place of most of them.

The nose itself it not that bad, kinda comical actually, but the gay pics and drug references are lame. SBOTW is basically smack talk and not that dangerous really. But the forums are still not what they used to be. And a lot of it is becuase many people left and haven't returned. rWc.

Brad, just because this time you left out your_flags of the world link_ {which is not DG realated} does not mean evryone likes your spam! Last I checked it was a free world!
Now, the reference to me running it like a business is, even more out of TOUCH! Trust me Brad, I have put some time in on helping the future of the SN and so has everyone on the Board! Now if I was running this like a business, I would have fired all of the BOD that was on board with the last SNAC! Can I do that??? No, so on with the show!
Rob has some good points but, since I know him Im curious as to whom he speaks of as potential sponsors. I hate to say it and maybe I should not but, DG is what the players make it and last I checked very few are doing anything to move it forward! The hecklers are at least voicing there thoughts right, or wrong.
Good luck with the sponsors. May I suggest CFR's?? Just ask BRAD what to do with the MONEY:} hehehe!

oh god, no!!! don't run the sponsors off...they'll have to go run their ads on the radio where the classic rock stations play Eric Clapton's "Cocaine" song, or the urban stations that play Snoop Dogg and all them boys from the hood who advocate smoking weed all day long. And God forbid you turn on the TV at 8 PM and have to see the half-naked chicks from the OC slutting around doing each other in between the Pepsi commercials where Shakira shakes that half-naked ass all over the screen and I get really impure thoughts that i'm certain to burn in hell for.

Yeah thank goodness we live in such a wholesome society where our elected officials always tell the truth and it's Disneyland every flippin day everywhere you look. I really would be embarrassed to have any of them visit the forum. i'm so ashamed of everything i've ever posted here. it's no wonder no one ever came to my tournaments.

i can't believe my posts were able to ruin the SN, i mean, sheesh, there's only 5 SN tournaments going on this weekend!!! before i started posting there must have been 10 every weekend, right?

My flag store has been off of my signature for at least a month, but since you love it so much, here it is again. [www.myworldflags.com]

I suggest a Zambia Ringer T. Very cool. Kenya also has some really nice colors in its flag. I am thinking the white hat on that one though.

Maybe you can buy that imarc guy a cool United Kingdom shirt too.

Rob may not have any potential sponsors right now because he would be ashamed to ask someone and them come look here. That's how I feel. The SN Forum has pretty much turned into what the PDGA Board used to be until they cleaned it up.

In regards to hecklers, your crazy if you think that GregoNose or Kernen bring anything at all to the Forums that help disc golf and help the SN's.

yeah that link you include on every post brings the SN so much value Memphisdiscgolf. you are ripping off the SN every time you post it since you don't compensate them at all and your brash commercialism offends us and wastes valuable SN server space. and at least i know to post "you're" rather than "your" when the meaning is "you are".

CAFEPRESS.COM IS A RIP-OFF!!!!

AND SO IS MYWORLDFLAGS.COM!!! DON't order from them!!!!

Re: SN Board Meeting – 28 Dec 05 – 11 Jan 06

Let me explain, just so there are no misunderstandings.

I wasn't calling any names (and still haven't) cause that would be a waste of bits.
The repost I made of the avatar was as close to name calling as I'll get but it is a solid point, I think.

The hesitation for me to approach my clients (again) is born from the simple fact that they will check this site before they give any money. These are God fearing Christians and would be interested in sponsorship for these reasons:

1. Tourney's are held in their market.
2. Sponsoring real physical activities is a good thing.
3. They trust my judgment and recommendations.

Now #3 is up for debate. The other 2 hold true always.

I have two potential sponsors who have markets in Louisiana, Mississippi, Arkansas, Alabama and Florida; i.e.. The SN district. I've massaged this idea with both clients but still see no reason to give them sndg.org as a reference to what they will be giving money to. My time spent with DG has dropped considerably due to many reasons but I still play, still love the game and still contribute.

As a matter of fact; should some sndg.org admin care to work a little, I'd say remove each of these posts soon or split the thread but I fear it wouldn't change the sentiment. There is no shame in moderating this forum.

So, write what you want - I am not here to dictate jack. I did however notice that because of what I previously stated, I cannot approach (seriously) my clients and present them with this showing of our arses.

With all that out of the way:
Mr. Moon, the new phorum is very nice. I've been keeping up with the development and it's righteous. Gotta love that clean look. The self moderation (ignore user) was brilliant and needed. How else can I be ignored? laf.

So mucho props to Brian for keeping this staple of SNDG running...except for power outages and probably improper BIOS power settings ;)

BTW - The first thing I did to remove what I'm talking about from my own attitude was to start using my real name as a sig. It's a start. And I am sorry for contributing to this thread hijack.

Mike is right, acerun. Businesses do not care about morality, only the bottom line. Not that I agree with your opinion that the Nose's posts are immoral. Maybe you just need to lighten up.

Your personal contacts are not going to save disc golf or the SN anyway, nor should the opinions of one person dictate who is allowed to post what on here.

And if you really think that "god-fearing Christians" are going to start to be big sponsors of DG, then you are an idiot. Their politics and those of most people who play disc golf are in complete contradiction with each other.
Re: SN Board Meeting – 28 Dec 05 – 11 Jan 06
March 31, 2006 12:33PM
Blueboy, thanks for being interested in this.

My above posts were a personal view on SNDG growth so I posted it. I was serious but not crying over it...so no idiot here, was that necessary? Until now, I don't think I have ever even written the word Immoral much less be a fanatic about it. A gigantic chunk of the world disagrees with me on that but they still want me to walk into their store and help the world go 'round.

Also, the only thing I really fear is being eaten alive. What God does to start or stop that, I'll never know...so I'm not that guy either. The businesses I mentioned, however are. God bless 'em.

The politics you speak of are exactly what I'm talking about but a customer is a customer and they know that too. If my concerns aren't heavy enough, so be it. A very good possibility is they say hell no, those drunkards... I can't finish that statement because I don't have the freakin data...because of the above posts.

I didn't realize this would be taken so personally. I'm no nazi, or preacher but I am capable and have resources to access; just not under these circumstances. That's the short story of what I tried to get across.

No sweat. I'll shudup but I take nothing back. :|

It's not that, ace. And you're not an idiot. It's just the same argument that many people have used before - that the content on the forum is going to scare off sponsors. There has never been any evidence that this is true. Griff posted something not too long ago, but it was pretty suspect, and was also during tha SNAC fiasco, so his friend at Discraft could have been referring to the tarnishing of the SN name by that tournament and not the SN forum posts in general.

I just think it's a weak argument, and I don't think many of those who make it really believe it either. They just see it as a way to get what they want.

I am actually talking about giving but I hear ya. Bad apples, turnstile hoppers and book cookers; I see that point but didn't consider it before now. The organization (JUDGEs) I ride with doesn't play that way. TD's and vendors could milk us all if we didn't call them out every once in a while, I suppose.

@#$%&, I wanted to quit, but seriously. Good point Mikey. Also, Rob, why would you send anyone to this site anyway? Even if all the posts were rosy sentiments praising disc golf and God and all that is good, there are no selling points here. It's a great site for tournament information, results, etc., but there's nothing here for sponsors. If you want a great site to sell sponsors, build it yourself. Get Mr. Bogey or somebody to take a bunch of pictures of old ladies and kids smiling and playing disc golf. Leave out all the long-haired hippies, and the big fat guys, and the shirtless guys covered in tattoos. Then, make sure your big church-going sponsors never, EVER show up at a tournament and see who is really playing.

He should then we,the rest of the SN, might be able to get a clue.
WHY no board updates since Jan 13th?????
Have the meetings been cancelled?? Postponned?? Put off till spring??
Could someone CLUE us in??
PLEASE.... inquiring minds would like to know what the elected board has been up to for the last 2 months.
Thanks

The last two montns would be four meetings. One no one attended, so that dropped it to three. Of those three, below are some of the things we did.

For one thing, we worked out ost of the details to prevent a recurance of the SNAC, But they have not been posted. If I recall, there were about 14 issues we voted on.

We made the call on basket pruchases, 20 per year, which has also not been posted.

The last several meetings have not be very well attended, if at all, so there has been a problem there also.

John has not been at the last few, I think he is working nights, not sure, but we carry on without him.

Which would explain why no one has said squat to me in the last three months about the championships ... why not one board member has asked what they can do to assist or made suggestions or asked my opinion.

Attendance at meetings and the posting of the minutes should not really be an option. When I elect someone to represent me, I expect accountability. That means I want them at the meetings and I want to know how they voted. We have gone around the bush a couple times about releasing details of who voted for what. I have yet to hear a compelling arguement for maintaining anonymity. The bottom line for me is, that at the very least, full, professional minutes should be posted within a week of the meeting.

Minimal standards of attendance should be in the charter or constitution or whatever document spells out the responsibilities of the board. I would also like to have someone quantify the phrase "The last several meetings have not be very well attended, if at all, so there has been a problem there also."

I assume there was at least a quorum.

We can argue the forum issue until we are blue in the face. Good or bad, these forums will not kill the Southern Nationals. A poorly hosted or administered website could contribute to the demise of this form of communication, but this site is neither of those (thanks, Brian).

For my money it is infinitely more important (both to the players of the SN and to potential sponsors) to have strong, visible, transparent leadership. The preceeding post scared me more, for a variety of reasons about the long-term outlook of this organization than any of those of the more flippant, sarcastic, ironic nature ... the ones we love to shoot like so many barrelled fish.

If I was a potential sponsor I would perhaps pay some attention to the murmurings of the masses (and by "masses" I mean more than just the three or four most vocal of our contributors regardless of how many noms de plume they adopt) ... but a far more important consideration would be how (or even whether) the SN leadership responded.

Let's quit debating the merits of free speech for a second and focus on the concept of FOIA and of mandatory disclosure of our Board's progress or lack thereof.

My final word ... and it is purely my opinion (one which I will be more than happy to re-express to anyone's face, IF ASKED):

The author of the preceeding thread should not talk about Board proceedings in this thread above that inane disclaimer. Be a mensch. If you are on the board and you are attending board meetings and voting on issues don't post in a thread dedicated to board proceedings over a signature which does not include a name and, moreover, disclaims any tie between your opinions and the views of the board.

P.S. I am considering running for the board this year and will guarantee that, if I am elected, there will be full disclosure of the board's meetings in this forum.

Chris and everyone for that matter. Chris you have been set up with Innova to order anything you need for the SNAC Or SNPC. Then JK will pay the bill with the fees. I think we where waiting to tell you but im not sure why. If for some unkown reason the account was not paid it will be paid by my CC which I do not think will be the case.
Chris, if you have anything to discuss please email us!!! The road goes both ways. I will also be at the championship to offer up any help you may need.
There is also a 4 person per meeting requirement{ that is for voting} If there is anything else you would like to know about the meetings just ask, as I have no problem filling you in. Regards boba
