Hands down, best course you have ever played? Where? Why?

Hands down, best course you have ever played? Where? Why?

I was just curious about about some of the other courses that fellow SNDG folks have played around the USA. I bring my discs with me whenever I go anywhere and feel fortunate to have played some great courses.

Anyone got any "best course" stories?

Mine would have to be Bryant Lake Park in Minnesota. Here is some info: Bryant Lake

It was very well manicured with freshly mowed fairways and elevated "greens" on some holes. The park office had color scorecards with a very nice picture of one of the holes on the front...like a ball golf course would have.

Anyway...would like to hear about other courses if anyone has a tale.

I'm concerned that many of you don't understand the meaning of "off topic." "Best course" threads are definitely ON topic, and belong on the main page.

That said, Jarva in Stockholm is by far the best course I've played. It's a pay course, but they use the money to maintain the place VERY well. They really treat it like a ball golf course. Nicest, prettiest course I've played.

As for free, domestic courses, I really liked the now destroyed PBJ in Hattiesburg. I was also a fan of Mikey's Rivendell course, also now defunct.

My best course was also in Minnesota. There is a town called Winona and my company's corporate headquarters is located there. The course is on the St. Mary's school property. Great course with great elevation changes and some pretty serious O.B. Also a @#$%& up stream that gives great background music while you play.

#2 has to be the nine hole Bayou course in the middle of Houston. I don't remember the name, but it was "something" Bayou. Very cool little nine hole.

I will have to chime in and say that Adventure Ridge in Vail Colorado was one of my faves. You ride a gondola up the mountain to the course. You throw across, up, and down the ski slopes. The views are amazing! Make sure to bring understable discs.....

Bryant Lake looks incredible. It doesn't look that hard, but I've definitely never seen such a cool looking course.

Brandywine in Delaware. Hole 6 and 7 are better known as the "Beauty" and the "Beast". The Beauty tees off from the hightest known and recorded point in the state of Delaware and it is a beautiful down hill over a creek shot. Hole 7 the Beast is right back up to the highest point in Delaware and the basket is placed behind a long winding rock wall. Lots of rock walls and lots of elevation.

Dangerous Don
Really Don? I wasn't too impressed with Brandywine. Above average, but the best? You need to play Chatauqa in Crystal Springs MS, it's worth the drive (only 2 hours from Abita)

And actually, Highland in Baton Rouge is/was one of the best courses in the South. Playing there all the time makes people take it for granted.

I would agree about the Highland around 1992-1996 the storms have taken a toll on it. It still is one of the prettiest courses in the afternoon to play 4-8 pm it is really sweet!!!

Horseshoe Canyon in Jasper, Arkansas.

Baskets on top of 30 ft. tall boulders. One hole teeing off of a boulder throwing down into a valley. Course record for a very long time was 52.

Horseshoe Canyon may not be the best I've ever played, but it was certainly the most interesting. The fox that burst out of its lair when I bent down to get my disc almost gave me a heart attack. Goat @#$%& everywhere. A basket atop a rock the size of a house, with steps cut in the back if you were lucky enough to make your approach shot stay on top of the rock. Swinging bridges, baskets cut into rock cleavages, old homemade baskets with horseshoes welded to the top, teepees for rent by the night, it was just a trip.
