Impending Flooding

Impending Flooding

The Mississippi River and its tributaries may reach water levels not seen since the flood of 1937. Published predictions from the Vicksburg District of the Corps of Engineers show the river gauge in Memphis at 45.0 on May 10 which is approximately 2 feet below the 100 year flood level. Unpublished predictions go as high as 48. If you live within the 100 year flood plain you should be preparing to evacuate.

It is surprising that the media has not made much of this because the ramifications of these predictions are enormous. This is going to be bad...really bad.

You figure any of the Memphis courses will be flooded on Sunday 05/08/2011?

I'm gonna be there and hoping to hit JRP at least.

Bud Hill will be unaccessible. Millington has evacuated some base housing but I don't know the elevations of Edmund Orgill. JRP will be OK as will Shelby Forest unless some of the access roads are underwater.

NOAA just updated its prediction from 45.0 to 48.0 at the Memphis Gauge. The record flood of 1937 was 48.7. In Memphis that's 6 feet higher than it is right now.
