I'm (Curt Youngblod) planning on being there too and playing Open.by curt - SN Tournament Information
Actually, two posts back, you did say you wanted to have a goal of surpassing the PDGA. And that's fine, I think it would be great if everyone who ever went to a PDGA event was really thinking, "Boy, I wish this was a SN event". I know that's how I usually feel. However, I think the difference that you're running into is that the guys who have been around for a long time, aren't that coby curt - General Discussion
QuoteI dont really care about ratings, I do think that if you play in a pro division you should have to have a sn bag tag to play in a sn event that would help raise alot of cash..... Just my thought.... Another barrier to entry to the pro division is not a good idea. We already have enough problems getting adv players to move to open (at least, that's what I hear on the boards), and chargingby curt - General Discussion
Shreveport doesn't have what you would really call a league (or at least it never has). They do host weekly mini tournaments though. From what I've seen on the discussion boards lately, it sounds like there is one going on at Clyde Fant on Wednesdays.by curt - General Discussion
QuoteWhy not strive to be better? Just like you should in all things in life. never settle I think Gary's point is that the SN is better than the PDGA as is. Big Purses, Big Tournaments, and Big Players are not necessarily better, and sometimes people prefer small tournaments, with small entry fees, where you hang out with good people without the pressure of a big money tournament. That's whatby curt - General Discussion
Judging form conversations earlier in the thread, it sounds like the board would choose to stick to a traditional definition of a round that depends on the number of holes thrown, not the number of shots. I am also not sure I see the need to restructure the championships just because the course is longer. I've played in plenty of tournaments where we played 2 rounds on a course like you're descby curt - General Discussion
This idea is about 6 years too early, but it looks to me like there are 3 more sides you could attach name plates to, making the cup good for 36 years. I think it would be really cool to have that much history on the trophy. * *Disclaimer: I don't know anything about trophy making, so I could be wrong.by curt - General Discussion
Add one to your crew from Little Rock. I'll be there for sure.by curt - General Discussion
Akeem, give it time. There was plenty of support from southern Louisiana in the days before things got a little off track in Shreveport. Shreveport's tournaments had a great reputation and everyone knew the Kevin did a good job. It takes some time to get that built up again, but as people see tournaments happening in Shreveport again, they will be making their way back to your tournaments. Aby curt - General Discussion
It sounds to me like you're the kind of guy who likes to read and do research to help you get good at a new hobby. If that's the case, go over to www.discgolfreview.com/forums. The forum over there is very active in technique discussion and are capable of giving you a ton of pointers on how to get started.by curt - General Discussion
I just reread your original post, and I it sounds like you intend to enter tournament information into an excel spreadsheet, put that information online, and get your website to crunch the numbers for a ratings website. I think it will be a lot easier to get excel to crunch the numbers and put the results on the website. Websites weren't really made to do that (you can convince them if you reallyby curt - General Discussion
Building a website to do this is going to be pretty difficult. You're going to need to learn PHP to maniuplate the database like you want to do. If you're real good at excel, it would probably be easier to do the calculations on your machine and output the results to the website instead of doing all the scripting, unless you want to populate the website directly from the SN results, which may beby curt - General Discussion
QuoteI'm fairly certain the IRS can't come after anyone who earns less than $600 at a single tournament. I think the $600 rule is when the PDGA/TD is required to report to the IRS, not when the IRS is allowed to come after you. In theory, the IRS can come after any amount of taxes you don't pay, but it is extremely unlikely. Also, if it is classified as winnings, I think that the 10,000 a yearby curt - General Discussion
I think that your bag tag idea is treading dangerously close to a membership fee. I realize that there isnt a proposal to make it required, but giving certain people rankings simply because they paid for a bag tag creates a device only available to "members". I think this is problematic because one of the major tenants of the SN is that everyone is welcome, and I don't think we shouldby curt - General Discussion
QuoteNot sure if I'm gonna make it but really trying to. Any chance this will fill up? Just don't want to drive up Saturday morning and get turned away. Quote Battle in the Boro Registered Players: 72 Player Max! Pre-registration is a must. based off this, I would try to contact the TD before driving up on Saturday morning anyway (this was as easy as a PM for me, btw)by curt - General Discussion
I'm not trying to be negative, because I think this is a great program and a great discount for SN players, but what exactly is it about this deal that requires me having a bag tag to use the discount? It seems to me that if I click on your link then I'll get the discount.by curt - General Discussion
Shane, I think it compares you to the course's average SSA or something along those lines.by curt - General Discussion
The problem they have with basket standards is that it would be virtually impossible to retrofit the hundreds of courses that already exist. The problem isn't that they can't enforce standards, it is that it would be impossible to actually get courses up to date with the standards (especially if the standards required something like smaller holes in the basket so that a disc couldn't slip throuby curt - General Discussion
I can't wait for this one. I'll definitely be there Saturday.by curt - General Discussion
I think you're argument about Innova/Discraft winning all the major events is a self-fulfilling prophecy. It isn't because they have the best discs, it is because they have the best players on the team. Like you said, a player that good can make any disc do whatever they want, so the tools are somewhat inconsequential. Also, the only reason Nikko is still on team Gateway is because his uncle rby curt - General Discussion
One thing to consider is that, I think, the 10,000 is very close (if it isn't actually) the magic number where the lucky winner will have to pay tax on it.by curt - General Discussion
I get that, and think the rules are written appropriately. However, if someone asked me directly what to do after a DROT, (as in the Q&A, which is what I think should be ammended) then I would mention marking the disc at the base of the basket, since whoever is asking doesn't appear to understand thatby curt - General Discussion
Chuck, In researching this topic, I did find that the rules Q&A is a little lacking. The question is what to do after a DROT, and instead of saying, "mark it at the base of the pole, and take your next shot from there", it goes into this weird rant on interference and old rules. There isn't actually anywhere in the rulebook, Q&A, or comp manual that tells players to mark aby curt - General Discussion
803.13 is pretty clear that a disc is not considered holed out until it comes to rest completely supported by the entrapment device or chains, neither of which is the top. Of the basket. Rules Q&A also imply a DROT should be marked if it is a distraction to another player. Simply adding a stroke after a DROT isn't going to satisfy a strict interpretation of the rules.by curt - General Discussion
It is listed on the PDGA site as a new rule because it has expanded a provision that has always been available for shots that land out of bounds. Now you have the option to rethrow from a previous lie with a one-throw penalty. The rule is new because it takes this ability away from landing out of bounds and extends it to all situations. You were also allowed to do this previously under the unpby curt - General Discussion
QuoteThe player making the shot that actually wedges THRU the side, obviously low, but ends up INside the basket no longer wedged. This shot is no longer considered holed out. I believe you would mark it at the base of the basket, and hole out from there. This is assuming you witnessed it go through the basket.by curt - General Discussion
I think the SN state coordinators should ignore the "USDGC's" suggestion that they use a rating-based system to determine the state reps. If they aren't going to take into account that large regions of the country aren't active in the PDGA then there is no reason to follow their system.* *Disclaimer: the wording may be a little harsh, since Harold clearly said the performance sysby curt - General Discussion
My bad, I though that there was a rule in there somewhere that used the phrase, "active cell phone". After searching for quite a while, it turns out I was mistaken.by curt - General Discussion
QuoteSo I'll have to bust out the Iphone on them, then hope it don't ring. In which case, I'd get you DQ'ed for having an active cell phone On a serious note, there's a pretty simple solution for people not knowing the rules. You simply have to explain to your group the rules have changed, and if they don't accept it, suggest a provisional and let the TD deal with it later. If the group dby curt - General Discussion
First of all, this notion that the BOD should not revoke the sanctioning of this tournament simply because it had already been given is completely ridiculous. Sanctioning was given to the tournament based on the understanding that it would consist of two rounds of 18 holes of golf as the guidelines stipulate. Then the TD changed things so that the tournament no longer fits into the guidelines.by curt - General Discussion
