Hey, if ESD wants to run a non-SN sanctioned event they can do whatever they want. But this was an SN event-championship nonetheless. I'm not sure a christian prayer, is in line with the SN mission. This is just another example of how religions are like pets: the people who own them think far more of them then those who don't and they can't understand why other people don't see just how adoraby HB1 - Off Topic Discussion
DISKEY WROTE: Well HB1, start your petition then..... Or just don't play in an ESD event again........ To my knowledge Josh always says a prayer to conclude the meeting, but I have also heard him say "if anyone has any objections......." before he does. Why didn't you speak up then? You obviously object. Do you also object to any TD yelling "ROLL TIDE" at the player's meeting?by HB1 - Off Topic Discussion
Moving this to the off topic forum. Sorry it lasted this long everyone. I do really appreciated everything done by ESD and the birmingham crew and I'm not at all angry about anything that happened. Much love to everyone. BOD, feel free to delete all of my posts related to this specific topic.by HB1 - Off Topic Discussion
No, Diskey. That would be fine. I just don't want the TD's doing it. Personal expressions of faith are awesome, no problems there. Group prayers led by SN tournament organizers, not cool. Again, walking away from the group is, of course, always an option. But why should a player be forced to exercise that option in a non-church setting? Why should we ostracize Muslims, Hindu's, Buddist, or Atby HB1 - Off Topic Discussion
I've been to ALMOST EVERY type of major sporting event and here's what I remember about prayer before hand: NASCAR, NFL, NCAA? yes. MLB, NBA, PGA, MLS, NHL, Tennis? No. I think that means you DO NOT have to have prayer in order to be considered a real sport. Either way, as a spectator I had no say so. If I was employed by one of those organizations and they forced me to participate in relby HB1 - Off Topic Discussion
On a much more related note: Not enough credit has been given to the Dustin Lemasters on this win. I think people who weren't there really can't appreciate how incredible that 193 total was. To shoot a 6 under second round in the driving rain on a challenging, wooded, hilly, rain soaked course was something to behold; especially after playing 24 holes that morning. Then to follow that up with a 6by HB1 - Off Topic Discussion
That's what I tell my female friends who get paid less for doing the same job as their male counter parts. "Hey girl, that's just something you have to deal with when you live in a country founded by men." It always makes them feel better about their plight.by HB1 - Off Topic Discussion
I agree that marijuana usage and drinking do isolate some folks as well. So does profanity. Which is why even though I usually cuss like a sailor, I try to curb it completely or do it under my breath during tournament rounds. Just trying to be considerate to the fact that I'm playing with people of different backgrounds and beliefs. So see, Head, I do respect you and your beliefs :)by HB1 - Off Topic Discussion
I really don't want to get into defending every strawman argument that gets raised, but needless to say, teachers didn't allow you to walk out of class when I was in school; plus I was in the religion back then, so I didn't care. I'm good with a moment of silence. "Moments of silence" are great and allow the crowd to observe in their own way without feeling isolated. If what comby HB1 - Off Topic Discussion
You misunderstand me Head. I don't want Christians to be silent, and if another player wanted to pray or cross himself or whatever, I could care less. What if the TD had been Muslim and asked the group to join him in appealing to Allah for protection? What if he had been Pagan and asked the group to join him in the sacrifice of a small animal? What if he had been a Scientologist and asked us to jby HB1 - Off Topic Discussion
Yeah, there were a fwe logistical issues I noted. I will mention them now, not as a complaint but just good natured feedback. I'm very thankful for the effort and energy put out by the Birmingham crew and all the sponsors and I greatly enjoyed the weekend. I would go back to another event hosted by B'ham in a heartbeat! 1. Terrible news. I would be glad to donate a few household items if/when they need it. I have a nice love seat, a TV, a DVD player, and a few other things that were going to be sold in a yard sale but I'll keep them for Henry if they need 'em. Otherwise, I'll pitch in some $$ to the cause. Please let me know which is best.by HB1 - General Discussion
I might actually make it this year now that's it's no longer on my anniversary weekend (wife was not having it-lol). Working on the details, hope to see y'all there.by HB1 - SN Tournament Information
You can keep/sell the clear orc (h. browning). Consider it a "thank you" for being an upfront honest squid :) But if you come across an orange DX roc, pin high in the water by hole #1 at Laf, I would love to have that one back. Oh and my dignity is probably still in the water there too, but it can stay. lolby HB1 - General Discussion
I thought the setup was perfect, but would have preferred a 47 hole tournament (that 48th hole cost me a first place finish, lol). Seriously though, everything was great IMO. Not too much pedestrian traffic, a very challenging but fair layout, and good food, drink, and company. Plus 48 holes for only $32. That's only .67 cents per hole. Not many tourney's that can give you that good of a dealby HB1 - SN Tournament Information
A big thanks to everyone that put time, effort, and money into this event. It was INCREDIBLE!! A big thanks to all the guys in my groups Saturday, you made the day much better. And a special big, BIG THANKS to Mikey. Well done sir, well done!by HB1 - SN Tournament Information
By the way, several of years ago I made some disparaging comments about the condition of Lafreniere and the general scene in the park. After my round yesterday, I feel compelled to rescind those comments. The course is in great shape and has been reformatted some to keep pedestrians out of harm's way. The grass is nice and green, the tee boxes are in good shape (even after all the rain), andby HB1 - SN Tournament Information

I've thought about that, but that would only determine the best pro state and the best am state, not the best state overall. But it is worth considering. It might just be a repeat of the SN championships though and not really a 'team' oriented event. I think my brother and I are going to take all these ideas and hash out a rough idea to present on this or a new thread. Then take the feedback fromby HB1 - General Discussion
Dustin, I think you have a really jaded view of how things go in the Am divisions. I've been playing this sport for close to 17 years and it's been my experience that people generally move up when it's time to move up. Sometimes they delay it in order to compete in the SNAC or Am Worlds, but that is not bagging, to me. We're not all pro's and some people may just never be able to advance theiby HB1 - General Discussion
On a separate note, another thing that would be cool is to have a player's home state as part of their name, especially in the SNAC and SNAP. Kinda like they do in the Open tournaments in the PGA. So a players names might read like this: Brian Jones (ALA) Hanan Browning (LA) etc.by HB1 - General Discussion
Cool. Thank you all for the suggestions. Will definitley try to hit Morley. I will have my daughter with me in a stroller, so Goat Hill may be out, as it is 9,200 feet long!!!by HB1 - General Discussion
Oh. Well, we were thinking state vs. state. Actually, what we were really discussing is how to bolster attendance and enhance the prestige of state championships. This idea was just one we were throwing out there to help with that. But any others are welcome. Does anyone know which SN states have state championship tournaments? I can only see where Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, and Arkby HB1 - General Discussion
