FYI, the server is moving back to Huntsville tonight at 4PM. It will be down for a few hours.by brianlmoon - Announcements
So, as you can see, the server has been moved to a location with power. The server that hosts this site is normally hosted at the dealnews.com offices in Huntsville. Today, a coworker and I drove to Huntsville and retrieved a lot of our internal servers and this one and moved them to a facility in Birmingham. It will live there for the time being. I hate that it was not up for people to communicaby brianlmoon - Announcements
Sorry the site was down this morning. Our data provider in Huntsville tells us that the fiber connection for the area where our offices are was eaten by squirrels. I kid you not. Sheesh. One of our junior developers shopped up this photo as a reenactment.by brianlmoon - Announcements
I have enabled a new spam checking service for the forums. It will only be applied to the first 10 posts someone makes. After they have made 10 successful posts their posts will no longer be checked for spam. I also deleted a ton of inactive accounts and blocked some wording that our latest favorite spammer liked to use.by brianlmoon - Announcements

Er, not sure what you mean. I made the private forum (since I am the admin). I did not make it inaccessible. There weby brianlmoon - General Discussion
Sorry for the down time. The CC I had set up with Dotster expired. So, auto-renew failed. My bad. As for today, the server seemed to overheat last night. As for ownership, the domain registrant is Sky South and I am the administrative and technical contact. The domain is currently assigned to my personal account with Dotster. Jim did pay for the domain originally and for a the first couple ofby brianlmoon - General Discussion
Yeah, this morning, everything is looking a little washed out. Looked better to me last night. Odd. I will make the borders and backgrounds a bit more prominent.by brianlmoon - General Discussion
I need to add that module, yeah.by brianlmoon - General Discussion
Remind me not to hire you for IT if you are going to leave a web page open for anyone to update it. =P just kidding... kind of.by brianlmoon - General Discussion
We will include the images that look good. Keep in mind, that was not my idea. =)by brianlmoon - General Discussion
More thoughts further help get my idea across. Most disc golf photography I see is documentary. They are pictures of people throwing, or putting, or standing around, etc. I am looking for more artsy stuff. And the images need to be high resolution. The width will be 950px at least and most likely I won't be able to use the whole image. For example, the stuff posted above is good looking, buby brianlmoon - General Discussion
Well, it will be an overall overhaul of the site. A new logo (or a real logo really) will be part of that. Russ, just send me raw photos and I will crop as needed. I am not sure of the dimensions yet. Color will be important so that it fits the theme. An image in the dead of winter is likely not going to fit in to the theme. I can enhance some photos as needed.by brianlmoon - General Discussion
Sure curt, I can try. I am looking for images of disc golf against landscape. Some designs I have been looking at are: I doubt I would go fully with either one of those, but I like idea of a landscape scene of disc golf at the top of the page. Obviously, cars and roads or ugly buildings would take away from the image. People are not bad as long as they are not distracting.by brianlmoon - General Discussion
Well, if there is the original art out there maybe. All depends on the art.by brianlmoon - General Discussion
I am hoping to make a logo and header that is more modern and more elegant. What i have in mind is images of a disc golf basket against a natural background. I found this one on flickr. It is nice, but I would like larger. Do you have anything? Can you shoot anything? I may ask Art Meripol if he has anything. He is a Birmingham disc golfer who just happens to be a photographer for Southerby brianlmoon - General Discussion
According to the guidelines, we don't limit an age/div combo. # 1.4 Amateur Divisions: Amateur players compete for trophies and/or prizes. 1. (1.4.1) Advanced: The top amateur division. 2. (1.4.2) Amateur: An amateur division for players who have developed basic skills and/or have tournament experience. 3. (1.4.3) Novice: an amateur division for beginning players.by brianlmoon - SN Board of Directors
Well, there is something wonky in the stats. None of the Novice players have points. I am not sure what is going on there. You can't really force someone to move into a Pro division. If they want to keep play for plastic forever, there is not much you can do. It could be that they don't want to pay the extra $20 per event. I know I don't. The only way to get a more accurate rating woulby brianlmoon - SN Board of Directors
Score is subjective to the division I think. At least, it is in terms of the number of players in a division. Divisions with a lot of players at events will have higher scores due to points being a factor in score.by brianlmoon - SN Board of Directors
QuoteCrispyCritterAre you comparing PDGA membership growth to SN tournament attendance? I am not comparing anything. I am only reporting factual data about attendance of SN events. I have no data for PDGA events or membership.by brianlmoon - General Discussion
QuoteBluff Mageei don't know about Moonie's stats. i'll wait and see if JK has a different set of numbers. also, several events for 2007-2008 season have yet to be put on the schedule. Well, any stats that would be effected by low event count did not consider the current year with the possible exception of the events per state data. I base my data on the data that John inputs. So, unless heby brianlmoon - General Discussion
New in these numbers is defined as a player name in the results that never appeared in any previous year's results. This is of course subject to errors in player's names or players with the same name. So, there is a small margin of error. Also, my data really only got good in 2003. So, there could be players that played in 2002, not in 2003 and then did play later that. They would be new inby brianlmoon - General Discussion
QuoteGriff (CounselorGriff)Hey...when you are "doin' your math" why don't you include the # of NEW events in the SN region... Just putting up numbers and observations. Here are some more numbers. Analyzing traffic patterns and user behavior is part of what I do for a living so I am attacking this data much the same way. QuoteBluff MageeWhat did the SN grow last year, 25, 30 percent? Not quite. Looks like it has flattened. Quotei2rtI got censored by the PDGA and the SN in the same day. I don't think even Bluff has been able to pull that one off. I guess the SN isn't that different from the PDGA after all. Once I get elected to the SN Board on my "free speech" platform there will be some changes around here. Just so it is clear. Decisions about content on this server does not stop at the board. This is being posted here for any Mobile folks that may want this information. Please don't start an argument about the date conflict or stuff about posting a PDGA event on the SN site. Randy asked me to post some information about the USDG position that will be awarded at the Alabama Summer Sizzler. There is a deadline on the entry fee. QuoteSection 3. QuoteBUDDang Brian you are good-- next time you are in the Mobile area could you come fix my sh*t???? :} Like Zinger said-- THANKS for what you have given us-- SNs would be nothing without this site. bud Heh, well, I broke it before I fixed it. So, not sure I am in the black on this one.by brianlmoon - General Discussion
QuoteTheZingernot too big of a thing, but you can't review any of the past years players' stats. Fixed, thanks.by brianlmoon - General Discussion
I made some changes to the server tonight. Please report any errors in this thread. Thanks.by brianlmoon - General Discussion
QuoteBluff MageeActually, it's a shame that the PDGA Rules Committee can't write the rules so that every call isn't up to the TD. The alternative is a TD having to get a written exception for anything they want to do outside of those very strict rules. As someone that has had to get that permission for an exception to a direct rule, a three minute speech is much better than having to do that fby brianlmoon - General Discussion
