I want to remind everyone that the Memphis Snake Doctors Blues Band will be playing on the club house porch from 8:00 pm until 11:00 pm. I think there may be a few words missing in the following sentence: 2.4 A tournament director (1) for each SNDG qualifier event that does not otherwise earn points for competing in the event directed is awarded two (2) points toward qualifying for the Championships in any division the player is otherwise qualified for. I have reviewed the rules and regulations of the MS Dept. of Revenue and those of the MS Div. of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks and the requirements are clear. If there is an event that includes vendors selling any tangible property then those vendors must obtain a vendor permit from the park, apply for a tax permit and collect 7% tax on all gross sales. In accounting for the value of a tournament I list everything that can be tracked to individual players. When running a tournament I am a TD not a bank. I do not cash checks, make loans or accept WIC vouchers. I do not allow people to late register with checks so I would not expect them to accept checks in winnings. What is fair is fair. Why write checks when you have all the cash on hand? If the BOD mandated a premium for ratings it would simply be an increase in the sanctioning fee and I would add it to the cost of the tournament. I see a real value in running a sanctioned event that would outweigh an additional cost of ratings should it come to that. The state will do what they want to do from closing the park to taking out a course and anything in between. They closed the swimming / paddle boat venue because rising insurance costs exceeded the revenue. You can't hold a large disc golf tournament with only one course. I can certainly understand why Jeff Davis gets so put out with disc golfers. No one ever gives him the benifit of the doubt he is immediately badmouthed based on rumors. I am moving forward with the Rumble in the Jungle planning with two courses. I have over a grand pledged in sponsorship money and have not even contacted anyone yet. I spoke to Mr. Davis within the last two weeks and he told me that he had absolutely no intention of taking out the Turkey Hollow course and that all rumors to the contrary were pure fiction. He assured me that there would be two courses available for the September Rumble in the Jungle tournament that I am planning. Before everyone gets all het up about a course being removed at Wall Doxey... I spoke with the park manager, Jeff Davis, and asked him how many courses will be available for the September 21st & 22nd Rumble in the Jungle tournament. The reply was straight forward and unambiguous: 2 courses. To expand a bit on what Bubbab had to say about the $3 tournament entry fee: this is not an arbitrary amount of money that the TD dreams up nor the entry fee to the park but a fee that the State of Mississippi imposes for the rental of the park disc golf course(s). Over one third of the tournaments have not paid the sanctioning fees. This is not good. I think the thing to do is to list the events and TDs who are past the grace period. If the TDs will not send in the sanctioning fees because it is the right thing to do then maybe peer pressure will provide the necessary motivation. I do not see a upside to multiple scorecards: 1. It is in conflict with the PDGA rules which stipulate a single card per group. 2. If a tournament has two 18 hole courses and 3 rounds that is 18 x 3 x 2 = 108 cards. If each player gets his own card that is 432 cards in the event the tournament fills up. Dillon, I checked with Bill Burkeen and there are some open dates outside of the time frame you discussed. Or, like Jack said, choose another venue. Pick a date that doesn't conflict with nearby events and schedule it on the SNDG calendar. Its all part of being a TD.
